THE FRENCH COLLECTION

The French Collection is a musical trip round some of the most beautiful areas of France, including Songs from the Auvergne and Brittany, arias and entr'actes from Carmen, Faure's evocative Sicilienne, Ibert's Divertissement, a brief visit to Jersey and finally, to Paris! The narration is taken from seasoned French travellers, past and present. The programme is humorous, atmospheric and likely to make you book a place on the next ferry to Calais!

SWEET SWAN OF AVON

Sweet Swan of Avon is English Serenata's extravaganza on Shakespeare and England, broadcast on prime time Saturday night Czech TV (with Czech sub-titles)! John Nettles was the narrator on this occasion, telling the story of theatre and town life in the market town of Stratford-upon-Avon from Shakespeare's birth to present day performances of the Royal Shakespeare Company. The CD of the music has also received high acclaim. Songs and interlude music for the theatre and for the great Stratford Jubilee by British composers are interspersed with words by the bard himself and amusing anecdotes, narrated by a leading actor from the RSC.

  A NIGHT IN OLD VIENNA

A Night in Old Vienna takes the audience back to the days when Vienna was the capital of music and dance. Amusing comments by the composers themselves introduce works by Mozart, Schubert and Beethoven, as well as Waltzes, Polkas and operetta by Strauss and Lehar. The romance of the Vienna Woods is evoked by local folk songs and dance. As an encore, The Sound of Music has to be the universally popular evocation of Austria.

FROM DUNKIRK TO VE DAY ...with guest artist Rosemary Squires

English Serenata's evocative tribute to the forties attracted a full  house at Festivals in 2004 and 2005. 

This unique programme celebrates the musicians and entertainers of World War 2, both Classical and Popular, against a background of the humour and personal tragedy of the period.

The music ranges from Bach, Mozart and Beethoven to Glen Miller and swing, with all the old wartime favourites. 

 Rosemary Squires has been delighting packed audiences with her warm personality and joi de vivre.

Narrators so far have included Richard Baker, David Jacobs, John Nettles and Shropshire Radio's Eric Smith.
